The series Anne Face is based on the death mask of L'Inconnue de la Seine. This mask derives from a young woman who drowned in the Seine more than 200 years ago. Her body was never recognized and a morgue worker decided to make a cast of her face. This cast or death mask became a desirable fixture on walls in many homes next to masks of deceased influential people (mostly men) like Goethe, Napoleon etc. Numerous casts of her face was made as interest grew. Maurice Blanchot, Agnes Varda and Michael Jackson have all written or been inspired by her to mention a few.

Much later, in 1960 when the first-aid doll was invented and needed a face, it became hers and she was named Anne. Still to this date she is the face of a universally dead body that people all around the world use to practice resuscitation.
